Home to a once prosperous sailmaking industry, which employed hundreds of “clamdiggers,” who lived in modest homes, still found along tree-lined streets. A stop at the The Nautical Museum, the old P.S. 17 building (1897) is a treasure not to be missed. Lastly, work up an appetite for late lunch or early dinner at one of City Island’s incredible seafood restaurants (optional).
